About Shadow Lane Farm

Welcome to the blog for Shadow Lane Farm—a homesteading work in progress named after the street I grew up on in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Shadow Lane was my childhood playground and the place where all my dreams were born.  Our house was sold in 1992 and although I will never inhabit, in a physical sense, that house and neighborhood again, I have found a way to keep the spirit of my family's home alive no matter where I go.

Shadow Lane Farm is located on the outskirts of Gwinn, Michigan and I am currently raising 18 egg-laying chickens (plus one rooster), and tending to ever expanding vegetable, herb, and fruit gardens.  I also live with my husband, four dogs, and a chicken guard cat.  In November 2012, we purchased the adjoining 10.5 wooded acres and will be bringing home a couple of Nubian baby goats this spring.

This will be a place that hosts all homestead-related posts as well as my reflections on Upper Peninsula rural living, friends and family, local farm and community events, and all the critters who share my life.
